In my consultation room at Olympia Reproductive Medical Center, Cambodia, I meet people from all over the world every day –
Couples who have tried for years and endured countless disappointments; women with premature ovarian failure who have been told “it’s almost impossible”; women in their forties still longing for their own child; families who have suffered recurrent miscarriages due to chromosomal abnormalities; HIV‑positive individuals asking with trepidation, “Can I still have a healthy baby?”; courageous single individuals hoping to embrace parenthood alone; and loving same‑sex partners dreaming of building a complete family…
Their stories differ, but their wish is the same – to have a healthy, adorable baby of their own.
Today, I want to tell everyone still striving for their parenthood dream: At Olympia Reproductive Medical Center, Cambodia, with internationally advanced third‑generation IVF technology (PGT), these “impossibles” can all become “I can.”
Unlike many countries and regions that impose strict restrictions on assisted reproductive technologies, Cambodia’s open and inclusive policy environment opens the door to parenthood for a wider range of people.
Key policy advantages for assisted reproduction in Cambodia:
No marriage certificate required – singles, same‑sex couples, and other groups can legally access assisted reproductive services. Only a valid passport is needed to begin treatment.
Legal sex selection – in Cambodia, embryo sex screening through third‑generation IVF is legally permitted. Whether you wish for a baby boy, baby girl, twins, or boy‑girl twins, it can be achieved within a lawful framework.
Legal and regulated donor sperm/eggs – for families affected by premature ovarian failure, azoospermia, or other conditions requiring donated gametes, donor sperm and egg services are fully legal in Cambodia.
HIV‑friendly – Cambodia allows HIV‑positive men to safely have healthy babies through sperm washing combined with IVF.
These policy advantages have made Cambodia a preferred destination for an increasing number of cross‑border fertility travellers. Cambodia’s third‑generation IVF technology now effectively screens for chromosomal abnormalities and monogenic diseases, with overall standards progressively aligning with international benchmarks.
Third‑generation IVF technology, formally known as Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) , involves comprehensive genetic screening of embryos before they are transferred to the mother’s uterus, selecting only embryos with normal chromosomes and no disease‑causing mutations.
PGT is divided into three main categories based on the testing objective:
① PGT‑A (Aneuploidy Screening)
Detects
whether the embryo has an abnormal number of chromosomes. Recommended
for women of advanced maternal age (38 years and above), those with
recurrent miscarriage, and those with repeated implantation failure.
PGT‑A can increase pregnancy rates by 20‑30% and reduce miscarriage
rates by 50%.
② PGT‑M (Monogenic Disease Testing)
Targets
specific mutations that cause monogenic disorders. For couples carrying
single‑gene diseases (e.g., thalassaemia, haemophilia), this test
completely prevents transmission to offspring.
③ PGT‑SR (Structural Rearrangement Testing)
Detects
chromosomal structural abnormalities (e.g., balanced translocations,
inversions) and selects embryos with normal chromosomal architecture for
transfer.
With our advanced laboratory equipment and experienced team of embryologists, we perform comprehensive and precise screening of all 23 pairs of chromosomes, safeguarding embryo health from the very start.
After years of trying without success, the cause is often linked to embryonic chromosomal abnormalities. PGT precisely screens embryos, eliminates abnormal ones, and selects the healthiest embryo for transfer, greatly improving the chance of a successful pregnancy.
For women with diminished ovarian reserve or poor egg quality, donor egg IVF is a reliable option. In Cambodia, donor egg services are completely legal. Combined with PGT, healthy embryos can be selected for transfer. Clinical data show that PGT‑A can raise the success rate for severe premature ovarian failure patients from under 5% to 15‑20%.
After age 35, the rate of embryonic aneuploidy rises significantly (around 20% at 35, over 40% at 40), and miscarriage rates can reach 30‑50%. PGT directly screens embryonic chromosomes to eliminate abnormal embryos. Clinical data show:
For women aged 35‑40, PGT reduces miscarriage rates from about 40% to 15‑20%;
For women over 40, miscarriage rates drop from over 50% to 25‑30%;
For women aged 40‑42, third‑generation IVF live birth rates can reach 25‑35%, compared with only 10‑20% for conventional IVF.
Blocked fallopian tubes are a common cause of female infertility. IVF directly bypasses the tubes by completing fertilisation and embryo culture outside the body, and then transferring the healthy embryo directly into the uterine cavity – completely circumventing the tubal issue.
For structural abnormalities such as balanced translocations and inversions, PGT‑SR can distinguish between normal embryos and those carrying abnormal chromosomal structures, ultimately selecting embryos with normal chromosomal architecture for transfer.
Recurrent miscarriage is often associated with embryonic chromosomal abnormalities. PGT can specifically screen for chromosomal or monogenic abnormalities, avoiding ineffective cycles and reducing physical strain and time loss.
For HIV‑positive men, we use advanced density‑gradient centrifugation combined with swim‑up techniques to wash sperm, effectively removing viral particles from seminal plasma while preserving sperm quality. After rigorous testing to confirm viral clearance, the washed sperm are used for in vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer. This technology greatly reduces the risk of viral transmission.
Repeated IVF failures are often closely linked to embryonic chromosomal abnormalities. PGT‑A can precisely identify chromosomally normal embryos for transfer, significantly increasing the success rate per single transfer.
For men with azoospermia, severe oligo‑asthenozoospermia, or for women with diminished ovarian reserve or poor egg quality, we provide donor sperm and donor eggs from rigorously health‑screened and genetically tested donors.
In Cambodia, embryo sex screening through third‑generation IVF is legal. You may choose a baby boy, baby girl, twins, or boy‑girl twins according to your preference.
Cambodia is open to same‑sex couples seeking assisted reproductive services. Whether you are a male couple needing donor eggs + surrogacy, or a female couple needing donor sperm + self‑gestation, we offer professional medical support.
Cambodia does not require a marriage certificate. Single individuals (whether male or female) can legally undergo assisted reproductive treatment. Only a passport is needed to begin the process.
