Ms. Zhang, 46 years old, once led a happy family with two children. Unfortunately, an accident took away her young son after several miscarriages. After some time, she decided to have another son, especially after the country implemented a policy allowing couples to have a second child. Her desire to have a son became overwhelming. But she knew it would be difficult at her age, and there was no guarantee that the baby would be a boy. When she learned through the internet that gender selection was possible with in vitro fertilization, she discussed the idea with her family and decided to go to Cambodia for the procedure, as gender selection is available there. Although her husband and daughter were worried about her health and feared she wouldn’t be able to handle another pregnancy, given the trauma of losing their son earlier, they supported her decision after careful consideration.
